Get ready for a thrilling Ashes comeback! The SCG pitch's green exterior has everyone talking, but is it a cause for concern?
Todd Murphy, the man in the spotlight, is on the verge of playing his first home Test, and the SCG's head curator, Adam Lewis, has some reassuring words. Despite the pitch's initial appearance, Lewis believes it will not impact the game's outcome.
"A hint of green is expected three days before the match," Lewis explained. "If there's no live grass visible at that stage, then we might worry... But I'm confident we're on the right track."
With a bit of sunshine predicted, Lewis expects the pitch to lose its greenness, creating ideal conditions for a full five-day Test.
But here's where it gets controversial...
Last year's SCG Test, known for being one of the toughest grounds to bowl on, ended in just two and a half days! To avoid a repeat, Lewis and his team are taking a different approach. They're reducing the grass density from 7mm to 6mm, which should flatten the wicket and provide less movement.
"We wanted to give it a bit more breathing room," Lewis said. "We've tested this approach in Shield matches, and the results were excellent."
This strategy could be a game-changer for Murphy, who is expected to replace Jhye Richardson if he makes the cut.
Australia's coaching staff had an in-depth discussion about the pitch on Friday, and Murphy spent most of the training session bowling to the top order.
And this is the part most people miss...
The other big question is whether Cameron Green will retain his spot. Beau Webster's presence in the gully during slips training has sparked speculation.
Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg is also optimistic about a full-length Test, saying he's had more discussions about wickets and grass than he ever imagined.
So, will the SCG pitch live up to expectations? Can Murphy make his mark on home soil? And will Green hold onto his place?
These questions and more will be answered as the Ashes series continues. Don't miss a moment of the action!
