Pirates Eye Left-Handed Starters to Reinforce Rotation
The Pittsburgh Pirates are gearing up for a potential playoff push this season, and they're not holding back on their efforts to bolster their roster. While they've made significant additions to their offense, including Ryan O'Hearn, Brandon Lowe, Jake Mangum, and Jhostynxon Garcia, and reportedly signed Marcell Ozuna, the Pirates are also looking to strengthen their starting rotation.
Pirates insider Jason Mackey revealed that the team has been in discussions with two left-handed starters, Jose Quintana and Tyler Anderson, as they aim to add depth to their starting lineup. Another potential candidate is Patrick Corbin, though there's been no confirmed contact with him yet.
Quintana, a 37-year-old former All-Star, had a solid season with the Milwaukee Brewers, going 11-7 with a 3.96 ERA in 24 starts. He's a reliable option for the bottom of the rotation. Anderson, 36, is a two-time All-Star with the Los Angeles Angels, but he struggled last season, posting a 2-8 record and a 4.56 ERA in 26 games.
The Pirates' pursuit of these left-handed starters comes as they aim to compete for a playoff spot. With spring training underway and pitchers and catchers set to report on Wednesday, the team is still in the market for more moves. The question remains: Will the Pirates secure a deal with either Quintana or Anderson, or will they explore other options to complete their rotation?
Stay tuned as the Pirates continue to shape their roster and aim for a successful season.
